EDITING

not

Are you tired of receiving rejection letters?

Do you dream of having your phone ring with an offer of agent representation?

Does this sound like a late-night infomercial yet?

Seriously though. Agents and acquisition editors expect your manuscript to shine—from Chapter One all the way to The End. They want to love it. But if they don’t, your publishing dream lands in the paper-recycling bin. Often, the only thing standing between you and a publishing deal is a manuscript that needs professional editing.

My job as an editor is to help you overcome that obstacle and realize your publishing dream.

WHAT DO I OFFER?
My extensive experience editing the work of hundreds of writers and maintaining each individual writer’s voice gives me the unique ability to preserve your authentic voice and the writing-style integrity of your manuscript.

The Chicago Manual of Style, the bible of the publishing industry, is the guide I use to ensure your manuscript meets industry standards. I edit in Microsoft Word and provide all editing notes via the track changes and comment functions. It is always your decision whether to accept and use those suggestions or not.

As a fellow writer, I understand the techniques of crafting a compelling story through characterization, dialogue, setting, pacing, theme and plot development. I also have experience working with an agent and acquisitions editor which gives me first-hand knowledge of what it takes to get your manuscript to that level.

FREE SAMPLE EDIT

I will review the first chapter of your manuscript to get a feel for your voice and style, and provide a five-page sample edit. The editing sample will give us both an idea of the level of editing necessary for the manuscript.

CONSULTATION

After I review your manuscript and return your sample edit, if you feel our styles are compatible and choose to take the next step, I offer a brief telephone consultation (no additional charge) to discuss my editing recommendations and address any questions you may have.

ETHICAL PLEDGE

I respect your privacy. The content of your manuscript and our work together will remain confidential.

COACHING – QUERY LETTER & BOOK PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT

Fiction writers, if you don’t have a compelling query letter, an agent will never request your completed manuscript. Nonfiction writers, without a solid, well-developed book proposal, your book idea will never capture an agent’s interest or persuade an acquisitions editor to take on your book idea. It’s just a fact: a well-written query letter and a well-written book proposal will open doors for you. I can help you get through that door.

SERVICE – TARGET THE RIGHT AGENT FOR YOUR MANUSCRIPT

It’s not a numbers game. The key to finding the right agent for your material does NOT include sending out mass submissions of your query letter and/or book proposal to every agent listed in The Writer’s Market or The Guide to Literary Agents. Mass submissions result in mass rejections. Targeting the agents who are currently signing and selling in your genre can put you on the fast track to a publishing deal. I can find those agents for you.

COACHING – BOOK & AUTHOR PROMOTION

It’s never too soon to begin promoting yourself or your book. Agents and publishers want to see you’ve developed your platform, established yourself as an expert, and built an audience. A strong internet presence is crucial and the key component to give you a marketing edge. This is just as important for fiction writers as it is for nonfiction writers. I can help you get that competitive edge.
